1960s Supermodel Art: Twiggy

Twiggy 1960s mod art painting

I’ve always loved Sixties fashion, and particularly the models of the 1960s: Twiggy, Jean Shrimpton, Penelope Tree etc. These are 2 paintings from a series I’ve just added to my Etsy store which are a mixture of Hollywood Stars and 60s fashion icons!

Twiggy (who, now aged 65, still models for M&S) was probably the best known of the 60s supermodels. Thin and gauche with androgynous hair and huge false eyelashes, Twiggy was massively influential on the late 60s fashion scene. She once said she achieved the look by ‘layering three pairs of false eyelashes over my own’ and then painting extra lashes on. Jeez that must have been uncomfortable!

She later branched out onto stage and screen – I particularly loved her in the 1971 movie The Boyfriend, where she surprised the world by singing and dancing deliciously as well as looking like the perfect 1930s star!

Anyway, here are 2 of my Twiggy-inspired paintings. The blue/green one is a bit blurry, I’ll have to re-take that but you get the idea.  There’s also another one in reds and pinks which you can see here too. What do you think?
